WHO IS EDDE?

The project European digital diplomacy exchange has been developed on the success and experience of previous efforts that contributed to the exchange of best practices and knowledge in the field of digital diplomacy.

Public officers and state representatives working at similar capacities have cooperated in a range of activities in the period from 2017 to the year 2018 as part of the project Enhancing digital diplomacy activities in the Western Balkan and Eastern European countries. These events included practical trainings, consultations and other activities that boosted, inspired and equipped the digital diplomat’s toolbox. The project now includes sixteen countries and a network of more than 300 digital diplomats who cooperate professionally by addressing challenges within their profession with a joint and more impactful solution.

LEADERSHIP

The EDDE network functions through two implementing bodies, the project management team and the Steering board. The beginning of the project that started with modest roots gradually grew and required a body, that would oversee the direction and growth of the project. Thus, the Steering board was established.

Members of the steering board are public officers and communicators who have been entrusted their position/role on the basis of a significant contribution to the field of digital diplomacy within their respectful country and the EDDE network. Each of the partner countries is represented by a member, who has an equal voice to those of his peers.

Members of the steering board strive to:

  • Assist with the preparation of current project activities, and actively contribute to future building of the project.
  • Serve as ambassadors of the EDDE project within their respectful countries and further promote the field of digital diplomacy.
  • Provide support and guidance for the project.
  • Contribute to the growth of the network and its capabilities.
  • Provide key advice on how to facilitate and build partnerships with other partners.
  • Contribute to the sustainability of the network.

It is necessary to point out, that national representation is carried out only with the aim of achieving equality of voices within the network, and to more efficiently address the needs of public communicators coming from each of the countries. Apart from this practical application, the EDDE project has always strived for a borderless combined effort to co-create the field of digital diplomacy, exchange best practices, build resilience against disinformation and find solutions for common challenges public officers face in their everyday work.
